In fact, the Jag looks to be taking design ideas from 1980′s station wagons. Spied photos (including one seen above) feature camo over the vehicle’s rear.

PS-Garage took it amongst themselves to computer-generate what they believe a new rear of XF will look like once production models are ready:

That’s right kiddos, the image above is NOT an officially released Jaguar photo – but a computer created speculation of what 2012′s XF Sportbrake may look like upon its release. However, we have seen a huge number of concept and camo vehicles released online throughout 2010 and 2011, as auto makers intentionally leak images in order to get early feedback from their buyers and hardcore fans.

This updated model features a newly designed hood, revised front grille, sleeker XJ-inspired headlights and all around luxury goodness. According to reports, the rear end includes modified rear bumper and restyled taillights. But we haven’t seen any official leaked photos of those.

Underneath XF’s hood will (likely) be a new 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel, with 187 horsepower 332 lb-ft of torque. As previously reported by sources online, the engine enables Jaguar XF to accelerate from 0-62 in 8.5 seconds, hit a top speed of 140 miles per hour, and average 43.5 miles per gallon.

First out in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type (known as XK-E in the US) is now turning 50. Available in coupe and convertible for, fans of the vehicle was seen as so beautiful that New York City’s Museum of Modern Art has one in its collection.

“It is impossible to overstate the impact the E-Type had when it was unveiled in 1961,” said Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design director. “Here was a car that encapsulated the spirit of the revolutionary era it came to symbolize. The E-Type is a design that even today continues to inform the work we do in styling the Jaguars of the future.”

Jaguar is planning a yearlong birthday celebration. The E-Type “gold anniversary” will be marked by celebrations at major auto shows and global events.

The premier celebration will come at the Geneva Motor Show in March, where E-Type made its world debut in ’61. Soon after, Jaguar will honor the vehicle at April’s New York International Auto Show, site of the sports car’s 1961 North American unveiling.

Other 50th birthday celebrations include England’s Goodwood Revival and Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, Germany’s Nurburgring Old Timer Grand Prix in August, and California’s Monterey Historics and Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance, also in August.

E-Type was sold in different variants before a 1975 replacement by XJ-S. Today, the E-Type (sold new in 1961 for $5,700, or $45,000 in today’s dollar) can cost anywhere from $30,000 to well above $100,000.

While details are limited, reports state the XF featured an advanced flywheel hybrid system. Currently undergoing development, this vehicle has a stop-start city mode, which allows the flywheel to gather energy during braking and dispute it during start-up. When combined with an engine stop-start system, fuel consumption can be lowered by as much as 20%.

Besides becoming extra fuel efficient, the Jaguar Xf Hybrid can deliver an 80 hp boost for 7-seconds. While that’s not very long, it would come in handy during acceleration or while overtaking someone on the Turnpike.

Jaguar hasn’t made any official announcements as of yet, but rumor suggest production will begin shortly.

Much like competitor Porsche, Jaguar has taken on a sedan design to combat Panamera. The XJ keeps a traditional Jaguar front end with larger grill and that famous angry cat logo. The rear end slips down like a giant crashing wave, breaking only for the slanted back window and allowing ample trunk space to fit golf clubs, priceless works of art, and whatever else people with money put in their trunks.

Two wheelbases (XJ and XJL) and three engines (5.0-liter V-8s or supercharged, 385/470/510 hp respectively) are available from your local Jaguar Dealer. Base price ranges from $72,500 to $115,000, so get out that AMEX Black card. The XJ’s drivetrains are shared with Jaguar’s XF. Because aluminum is aluminum the XJ is relatively light. The naturally aspirated short-wheelbase model checks in at 4045 pounds.

Inside, 2011′s XJ looks more like a shuttle from Star Trek The Next Generation – a huge touchscreen navigational and entertainment system is available at your fingertips. Secondary controls as well as instrument panel buttons are thumb-ready on your steering wheel. All-leather interior reminds you exactly why paying over $100,000 for an automobile isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The XJ220 was based off a Jaguar concept from 1988. It quickly became legend as one of the most expensive and stylish sports cars ever built. At around $580,000 starting price, the multi-billionaire owner could enjoy a V6 that takes you upwards of 200 miles per hour. It barely sold.

You see, XJ220 was the victim of hype and over-ambitious press. Jaguar originally promoted this supercar with an all wheel drive V12, capable of hitting over 220 miles per hour (hence the “220″ in its name). Instead, you ended up with a a car that could just about reach 200, but only contained that 6-cyl and rear wheel drive.

This particular XJ was last seen in Beirut six years after being sold to a customer by the Jaguar Dealer in Dubai. Now it sits wasting away in the dry desert air. A tragic end to the odd story of one of Jaguar’s biggest blunders.

Tata Motors, who own both brands, have yet to build a luxury Jag hybrid. This loan will finance the development of hybrid drivetrains, along with more energy-efficient vehicle bodies.

One of the best directions Jaguar can go is taking their mini sports roadster, the XE concept – they could feature an extended-range hybrid powertrain, as well as a small three-cylinder gasoline engine. Jag is also working on hybrid electric versions of its new XJ sedan.

With Jaguar Land Rover consolidating its powertrains in recent years, the two automakers would certainly share any production-ready hybrid system for use on both Jaguar and Land Rover models. Likewise, research on more efficient bodywork would benefit both brands and could see improved fuel efficiency for the total lineup, as well as reduced construction costs.
