Behind every car is a story, and the element of design is always a chapter within it.

Jaguar UK has chosen Clerkenwell Design Week to showcase the one-off C-X75 concept car and has depicted the process from the first sketch to production through a bespoke art installation designed and produced by the Jaguar design team.

Hugo Nightingale, Senior Designer, Jaguar Cars, said: ‘We want to explain to people the art of creating a car. In some companies car design is a technical, cold process. At Jaguar it is about emotion, artistry and craftsmanship.’

He added, ‘Clerkenwell Design Week is the perfect environment for us to present the C-X75 to the design world and explain how its existence was founded on a desire to continue Jaguar’s design philosophy of flowing lines, purity of form and bespoke luxury for years to come.’

The installation reveals insights into the car design process through eight ‘windows’ each measuring two metres wide. Starting with inspiration, the journey includes creating sketchwork, material choice and sculpting full-size clay models. It is revealed that for that in the early design phase of a new car, approximately five hundred sketches are pencilled before a single theme is decided upon.

On the C-X75 Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Cars, commented, ‘The C-X75 is everything a Jaguar should be. It possesses remarkable poise and grace yet at the same time has the excitement and potency of a true supercar. You could argue this is as close to a pure art form as a concept car can get.” Also on display are a selection of Jaguar’s current range of cars; the XFR, XKR-S and XJ Supersport.

Hallmark did say that Jaguar is looking for a small sedan to bring to market by 2013 or 2014 but that it has not yet settled on a design.

A combined effort between Jag and Bertone, the Bertone B99 concept is scheduled to make an appearance at the Geneva Motor Show. Credible sources, including Jalopnik and The Truth About Cars, report that this sketch is indeed the nicknamed “Baby Jag.”

The vehicle is coupe sized, but comes in officially as a sedan (with small, rear “suicide” doors) – there’s also a stylish yet classic wooden dash. Check back after Geneva for more real-life photos.

This singular image hit websites last week, officially from the foreign auto maker (or unofficially, depending on where you get your news). The Jaguar-based concept car, which some speculate is a sedan, will be designed by Bertone. Bertone has designed for Jaguar in the past: In 1967, Bertone designed Pirana for Jaguar, and the Ascot in 1977.

According to Autoblog.it, there is no real confirmation that they’ve given Bertone the o.k. to work on a Jag vehicle. It’s hard to imagine Bertone putting a Jaguar badge on any concept without a go-ahead.

While details are limited, reports state the XF featured an advanced flywheel hybrid system. Currently undergoing development, this vehicle has a stop-start city mode, which allows the flywheel to gather energy during braking and dispute it during start-up. When combined with an engine stop-start system, fuel consumption can be lowered by as much as 20%.

Besides becoming extra fuel efficient, the Jaguar Xf Hybrid can deliver an 80 hp boost for 7-seconds. While that’s not very long, it would come in handy during acceleration or while overtaking someone on the Turnpike.

Jaguar hasn’t made any official announcements as of yet, but rumor suggest production will begin shortly.

When you find a dozen old school Jaguar E-Types in a garage what’s your first reaction? Well, that may be a loaded question, since the owner of these 12 classic Jaguars almost junked them all. But after thinking about it for two seconds he realized the mother load that was stumbled upon. You see, all 12 Jags E-Types are in need of intense restoration. Basically, they’ll be a fantastic project for one, or twelve, auto enthusiasts…or a complete nightmare no one will ever wake from!

According to Jalopnik, The seller claims that they will only be sold as a lot…The starting bid is $200,000, and the listing was posted under the category “Jaguar: X-Type.” Which both makes perfect sense (E-types were sold as XK-Es in some markets, including ours) and no sense at all.

So…who wants to make out life long dreams come true and buy this auto blog a dozen Jaguar E-Types?

Tata Motors, who own both brands, have yet to build a luxury Jag hybrid. This loan will finance the development of hybrid drivetrains, along with more energy-efficient vehicle bodies.

One of the best directions Jaguar can go is taking their mini sports roadster, the XE concept – they could feature an extended-range hybrid powertrain, as well as a small three-cylinder gasoline engine. Jag is also working on hybrid electric versions of its new XJ sedan.

With Jaguar Land Rover consolidating its powertrains in recent years, the two automakers would certainly share any production-ready hybrid system for use on both Jaguar and Land Rover models. Likewise, research on more efficient bodywork would benefit both brands and could see improved fuel efficiency for the total lineup, as well as reduced construction costs.

Two things you don’t normally hear together – “Hybrid” and “Jet Engine” – well friends, it looks like Jaguar is going to change that. As it goes, Jag is looking to produce a hybrid luxury sports car, which will use a small jet turbine engine to power its electric motor. We know, it sounds like something an Austin Powers villain would create – but the British government is taking this proposal seriously…and giving up $24 million to the car maker for development.

Jaguar is joining with British gas turbine manufacturer Bladon Jets and electric motor manufacturer SR Drives for this creation. This is not the first time Jag has wanted to combine cars & jets – subsidiary U.K. Rover built the first gas turbine-powered car in 1950, the Jet-1. That two-seater was capable of 88 mph (Great Scott!) at an amazing 50,000 rpm.

During the year Jaguar will also celebrate 75 of making some of the world’s greatest automobiles – and delivering concepts to shows like Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival in the UK; the Concours D’Elegance at Pebble Beach in the US and at the Mille Miglia classic in Italy.

Jaguar’s 2-door entry-level XE Roadster may be making a public appearance in the near future, rumors suggest. The former XK convertible has been redesigned, at least as much as artists renderings of the 2012 XE roadster show. The vehicle has grown in size, it’ still no 4-seater, but a longer chassis and rounder grill give the XE that frightful look other sports cars tremble at.

There’s no word yet on an exact engine size, or if the XE will actually be able to take on its greatest luxury sport competition – the Maserati GranTurismo – we still look forward to a new 2-door Jag. Both models are also expected to ride on an updated version of the XK’s aluminum chassis.
